Inquiry Reports

Introduction

This report focuses on sugar, and how sugar breaks down in our body. Sugar is the most used mineral in the world and here is how it gets broken down in our body.

Body

How does the body breakdown sugar? Sugar is mostly broken down in the small intestine but in the stomach digestive acids slow down digestion in the small intestine. But what happens in the small intestine is amylase is secreted by the pancreas into the first part of the small intestine where simple sugars are made from carbohydrates. Then are chopped into smaller bits and it get converted to glucose and absorbed into the bloodstream.

How does it happen? Well it begins in the mouth where it starts getting digested by the amylase then it goes down the oesophagus to the stomach, there the stomach slows down digestion then..... In the small intestine the sugars get chopped down into smaller and absorbed into the bloodstream.

Can other things get broken down just the same? Yes. Carbohydrates is what got me all this information in the first place so yes carbohydrates can get broken down the same way.

Can things go wrong? Yes. Sadly diabetes is a condition that some people catch or get. Diabetes is when you have to manage your sugars, carbohydrates, proteins, fats and other stuff in there meals. Diabetes can end in death if people with diabetes don’t monitor it and if your blood-sugar levels get too low it can end in death.

Conclusion

In the end, sugar is the most eaten food in the world but it can make you fat if you eat too much candy and sugar filled foods. But others are great to eat.
